Nestled in nature on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, the Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo, México is celebrating culture and creativity through an exclusive employee fashion collection. The resort commissioned Mexico City-born designer Kris Goyri to create a one-of-a-kind collection inspired by tradition, the resort and its natural surroundings.

“The collection was thoughtfully envisioned by Goyri and the resort team to serve as a physical representation of the resort’s connection to Tamarindo, Mexico, its people, traditions and history,” said Felix Murillo, general manager, Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo, México. “Goyri spent time in Tamarindo where he drew inspiration for the collection’s rich color palette mixed with soft blend tints.”

The collection represents the Aztec calendar’s Four Suns, which signify the four ages of creation that preceded the present: Jaguar, Wind, Rain of Fire and Water, bringing to life the resort’s commitment to authentic experiences.

“The collection’s silhouettes are elegant, clean and highly functional for employees,” Murillo noted. “The clothing reflects the Mexican spirit, a relaxed look that flows, and the comfort and functionality of a more traditional ‘uniform.’ All pieces are made from sustainable materials such as cotton, linen and lyocell. The materials used for the clothes create a sense of place. Each unique design is specific to each facet of the resort and extremely comfortable and easy to wear.”

The Employee Fashion Collection is just another way for the resort to connect guests to the destination, Murillo explained, while also providing the team with touches of local culture.

“An integral part of the resort’s character is the celebration of Mexican design across all disciplines,” Murillo said. “The resort represents a collaboration of the very best Mexican talent, Puro Talento Mexicano, which guarantees quality but also showcases the country’s revered artisans. I´m most proud of this showcase.”

Goyri shares this pride, as he can communicate his culture using a vehicle that is approachable to all. He said that the main idea behind the collection is to recover pre-Hispanic symbolism through silhouettes, textures, colors and shapes.

“The result is a vision of a contemporary pre-Hispanic combined with the versality of a living and colorful Mexico,” Goyri said. “I am very organic in the way I find inspiration, through experiences, travel, mystic places around the country, pre-Hispanic vision and a very contemporary way of transmitting Mexican culture.”

According to the designer, pre-Hispanic symbolism was mixed with this contemporary, elegant and clean style that matches the architecture and blends with the nature of the region, making it rich in colors, textures and shapes.

Designed by LegoRocha, the unique architecture of the resort features surprises and offers guests a sense of mystery, common in Mexican architecture. Murillo said that these design elements were considered when creating the collection.

“Four Seasons is dedicated to showcasing Character, Connection and Craftsmanship throughout its portfolio,” Murillo said. “The Employee Fashion Collection embodies these three pillars as it represents the character of Tamarindo, connects our team to the destination´s heritage and showcases work from the incredible craftspeople in Mexico.”

The collection embodies the clear style of the resort, Goyri noted, all through the worldview of the Nahuas, Mayas, Tarahumara and other civilizations.

“For me, fashion is to create unique pieces for life,” Goyri said. “I have never been inspired by tendencies but making something much more atemporal. Color and beautiful materials inspire me and doing pieces that come to life when you wear them, and that becomes a great memory of the life of people who wore them.”

Pride extends to Four Seasons team members as well, which according to Murillo, truly immerses them in their work and allows them to better service guests. “They have become a part of the resort and not just an employee at the resort,” Murillo said.

Being that the uniforms are so noticeable, they are the ideal channel to communicate the resorts’ mission and the story of Tamarindo.

“[The apparel] will be one of the first things guests see when they arrive— that and the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean,” Murillo said. “The team is excited and proud to wear these works of art, and each department has its own design.”

Murillo added, “Personally, it is such a joy to know the team will wear beautiful garments to work. As the general manager, it feels great that the team is comfortable and proud of their appearance at work.”

For the designer, Goyri believes what makes the collection so incredible is that it mixes details to make it unique— ike sustainable textiles, materials, textures, colors and silhouettes—but also finds balance between everyday pieces with a highly personalized design.

“It so important now that the experiences within a resort bring up an amazing story,” he said. “I believe the people who are part of the team are the ones who tell this story, so wearing something that inspires them every day is what makes the difference.”
