ATLANTA—IHG Hotels & Resorts has revealed that the first Atwell Suites hotel is now under construction in Miami.
Expected to open by summer 2021, the first Atwell Suites will be a 90-room hotel located in Brickell, an urban neighborhood home to Miami and South Florida’s financial district, as well as many foreign consulates. The hotel is part of a new high-rise, mixed-use property which will also include a new 140-room Hotel Indigo Miami Brickell. This property is owned by Francisco Arocha, Pedro F. Villar, Albert Ovadia and Sunview Companies.
Atwell Suites is IHG’s newest brand, introduced in 2019 as a design-led, dynamic, all-suites hotel brand optimized for longer stays of up to six nights. The brand has 20 properties now under planning and development, across the U.S., in markets such as Austin, Texas; Charlotte, North Carolina; Denver; and Phoenix. Construction is expected to begin on additional Atwell Suites properties in the coming months.

The company has also released a variety of new renderings showcasing the design of the Atwell Suites brand including the main lobby space meant to bring people together around the breakfast area, lounge and bar; The Common (a dynamic space on the second floor lobby inspired by co-working lounges providing a place for guests to work and relax); and The Study (a bookable meeting room that is tech-enabled with everything needed for a productive meeting).
Gilbride noted that the company made no changes to the design or brand rollout because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We have not had to alter any of our design of the hotel or our key experiences based on COVID.,” she said. “Certainly based on when our hotel opens and where we are, all of the items that have across our IHG hotels that help to deliver our safety protocols…would be things that we could easily incorporate into all of our hotels, but we have not fundamentally changed any of our design or experience of this brand.”

Atwell Suites properties will offer all suites which include distinct zones for living and sleeping; a wet bar with undercounter refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker and bar sink; a work area with a high-top desk; a pull-out sofa; an oversized vanity in the bathroom; and a two-sided closet that can be easily accessed from both the guestroom and the bathroom.
